At Pants Press, every publishing package includes a developmental edit. That's unusual. Most publishing companies charge extra for this service, but I believe every book benefits from an experienced editorial eye before it goes to press.

And if you want additional editing, I can help with that, too, for just 1.5 cents per word.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing looks at your manuscript as a whole rather than focusing on individual sentences. It asks one simple question: Does your book work?

To answer that, I look at things like:

• Story structure and pacing

• Character development and motivation

• Plot holes and inconsistencies

• Organization and flow

• Tone and voice

• Clarity and readability

• Whether the book delivers on its promise to the reader

• Whether anything needs to be added, removed, expanded, or rearranged

The goal isn't to rewrite your book for you. It's to give you an experienced set of eyes and honest, constructive feedback about what's working, what isn't, and what could make the book stronger.

For 1.5¢ per word, you get all three editing services:

Copy Editing

Is everything correct and consistent?

Copy editing focuses on the technical details of your manuscript, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, word usage, consistency, continuity, and other errors that can distract readers from your story.

It's the difference between a manuscript that is simply finished and one that feels professionally prepared for publication.

Proofreading

Did anything slip through the cracks?

Proofreading is the final safety net.

After your book has been formatted and designed, I'll give it one final pass to catch typos, missing words, punctuation errors, formatting problems, incorrect page numbers, and other mistakes that can appear during the production process.

A final proofread is especially important because a book that was perfect in Word can develop new errors when it's turned into a finished book.

Line Editing

Does the writing read as well as it can?

A line edit focuses on your writing at the sentence and paragraph level. I'll look for awkward or confusing phrasing, repetition, word choice, pacing, tone, dialogue, transitions, and places where the prose could be sharper, clearer, or more engaging.

Most importantly, I'll preserve your voice. The goal is to make your writing stronger—not make it sound like mine.

No nickel-and-diming.

Your 1.5¢ per-word fee covers all three editing passes:

Line edit → Copy edit → Final proofread

That's one price for the complete three-pass editing process—not 1.5¢ per word for each service.

For example:

50,000 words → $750
60,000 words → $900
80,000 words → $1,200
100,000 words → $1,500

Many editors charge separately for each stage of the editing process. I bundle all three passes into one straightforward per-word price because I want you to know exactly what you're getting.
